Dumb and dumber?

We try to respect all of our various cycling friends in their insular communities, but we're losing patience with the Great Fixie Fascination of 2007.

This one could be called "When style collides with stupidity," and argues for more helmets among riders and drunken onlookers at these silly skid competitions.

You just know a fad is done with (or should be done with) when kids from smalltowns in the middle of nowhere are sending in pictures of their bikes to Fixed Gear Gallery all decked out with spoke cards and top-tube protectors when they have never been within 300 miles of an alleycat race or a parking meter.

And don't even get me started on the aesthetics of those chop-flop uglyass bullhorn bars or the idiocy of taking pride in how low you can get your bars and how high you can get your seat, resulting in a riding position that makes sense in maybe a wind-tunnel but prevents a person from being able to actually ride farther than the nearest hipster bar.
