20 CM cyclists arrested in Cycle City

We've got mixed feelings about Critical Mass -- we love it as a pro-bike parade, we hate it as a self-righteous anti-car protest.

And for the record, every Minneapolis CM ride we've ever been on has been 99 percent the former. The most commonly heard slogan directed at nonplussed Twin Cities drivers? "Happy Friday!"

So this comes as a bit of surprise.

Geeze, we leave town for three days and everything goes to hell. The fact that police were monitoring the ride for any law-breaking sorta tells you something: They were looking for an excuse to bust this up, and that's precisely what they did. (You're not going to have a group ride of 100+ riders without someone running a yellow, or crossing the center line, or jumping up on the sidewalk -- all a great excuse for a determined cop.)
