Flying to a bike advocacy event: Like bombing for peace?

Reading Byron's worrisome posts on Friday, I was concerned that the Bike Hugger fellows weren't going to make it to Austin to host their own SXSW BBQ. So I passed those uncomfortable hours over at CarbonCounter.org, calculating how much carbon DL Byron would emit flying from Seattle to Memphis to Austin, and back again.

So how much carbon did the Head Hugga release into the atmosphere in his ultimately successful quest? A mere 2.87 tons of carbon to get our man to Texas for -- er, a rock 'n' roll festival.

Of course, that doesn't take into account the carbon released by the BBQ itself. If it was a pit BBQ with soaked hickory and traditional Texas sauce (vinegar!), shack beans, and toasted Wonderbread, that number rises to a more troubling 2.870000001 tons of carbon.

Remarkable -- I think this is the first snarky post about bike hugger. Noted! Maybe Bike Snob will hit us next . . . .

DLB, you must have missed the previous snark, which is clearly tagged "envy."
