The lede-out, stage 4: What you need to know about the TDF today

Going forward, we'll give you people what you want: A single, easy to remember bullet point from today's stage.

Here it is: Al Trautwig is redeemed.

For the first three stages, the Traut-man has been predicting a sprint win by the only Norwegian in the peloton--big Thor Hushovd. His fellow Versus commentators--especially Paul Sherwen--have been giving the big dummy loads of (well-deserved) grief about "not knowing anyone else's name."

But it just goes to show you: A broken clock is right twice a day.

(Sorry about the crap art -- our perfectly legal copies of Photoshop and Illustrator are on the home computer.)

al trautwig is a tool. he's the "weird, off-mainstream" sports dude on network TV, but it's like he doesn't get enough assignments to actually learn anything about cycling or cross country skiing.

or else he's just sorta stuck on "gotta 'splain these complicated sports to stoopid American football fans" and never gets beyond the basics

I like Al. He's kind of a dick to Bobke, true... but Bobke can take it, for sure. Paul and Phil certainly make him look dumb, but they are the unquestioned, unimpeachable masters. (Though they often get the call wrong, in almost every stage at some crucial moment... )
