Wouldn't it be nice if today's impressive win by young Telecom rider Linus Gerdemann were proof that standout performances can come as often from youthful impudence as from illegal substances?

He didn't gain Voekler-like time though. Just enough to keep the yellow jersey overnight. Vino is keeping his powder dry for tomorrow, rest assured.

Gerdemann is one of a whole new freshman class at this year's Tour, and it's good to see so many new faces in the windows of the train. See if you can spot the pug-nosed little fellow in this somewhat overcooked promotional video:
