Whistler's Mother
Word from B.C. is that everyone's getting itchy for Whistler to open to mountain biking. But Mother Nature's bounty — that is, the tons of snow that fell on the hill this year — has provided for a later opening than in the past.
Only 17 more sleeps until the chairlifts roar to life for another gravity-fed season begins on Saturday, May 19.
If you are a typical adrenaline junkie, chances are your mountain bike costs more than your car. Your goggle tan is so dark that people think you have a beard and the warm weather has you itching for a ride in the park. Whistler Blackcomb (WB) officials understand your compulsion so the snow is literally being shovelled away.
“We had a lot of snow this year so things are starting a little slower this year. May 19 is the latest we’ve opened in a while, but that’s the price you pay for such a great winter,” said Rob McSkimming, WB’s VP of business development.
Take this time to wax your snowboard, grease your bearings, and mount that miniature spy camera on your top-tube like the dude in that video up there.
