Random notes on the decline of your occasional blogger, and States CX

Bitter cold on the bike today. It was an act of masochism: No reason to go out, no reason to jump on the Cresta and head downtown, but I did it anyway. I watched The Godfather on AMC last night, and just wanted to go out and scare somebody.

States CX on Saturday, here are my notes (I took video, but I cut it short because I didn't want to tape over some awesome old Marilyn Chambers bootleg footage. Kidding!):

  • Joe Meisser, an animal on a singlespeed MTB, and previous champion of the mighty Dakota-50, showed at Wirth that he can dominate the C race. Did not race. Reason given: "Racing is bad. Racing hurts."
  • Super-rookie. Raced B, I think, in one of those LGR fag-bags. Gladhanding the crowd on Hooligan Hill. What a winning smile! Gave lots of props -- which we hereby reiterate -- to P.LeMieux, offical state CX champ (and infamous local flier at the '07 NGVP.)
  • Hurl. Did not race. Wore on his head what Liam Gallagher would call a "crisp packet" but what I would call a thermo-bag. Also, milkman's white pants, well after Labor Day. Reason give: Not quotable in a family publication.
  • Zito. Did not race. Does not race, has he ever? Did not, to my knowledge, call any number of racers a bitch for throwing shot glasses into the dirt. Gave great pushes to Hareland and Maxwell. Spectators all agreed they'd never seen Zito run that fast except "away from women and toward beer."
  • Hollywood. By unanimous decision, a course to remember. Almost 2.5 miles long, insuring that there would be no lapping -- thus for spectators, the leaders remained clear and intelligible and distinct and not mixed in with a lot of losers. Raced. Wisely stopped at the whiskey handup and did not leave. The flyer this year, definitely muted. When can we convince some of those fixie hipsters to start making cool CX fliers? (CX is too hard for them, I know. It's too hard for everyone. There was not a lot of great flier art at the Donner Party, either.)
  • Geno. Not present.
  • P-Max. Gave it everything. It showed. Didn't have a chance to get it all from the horse's mouth, but strongly recommend switching to the BPB kit next year ("Crossniacs"? A kidney-punch to the language and cycling "fashion.")
  • P. McKinney. Props to the Lion King for riding the A race for fun. Did he get forcibly upgraded, or choose to race 35+? Not sure, but Mensch reading is off the charts.
  • Burnsie. Great to see him back in action in the Bees. 15th overall, I think? BPA award -- Best Positive Attitude.
  • O'Reilly. Resplendent in pink. Since when the Bob Brown single with S&S couplings? Schweet!
  • Pinch Flat News. Did not race. Did not tape. Totally lame. On some sort of semi-sabbatical. Stay tuned. Pay your dues. (Click on the ads.)
By the way, if you're Jonesing for that old Pinch Flat Magic, well -- here you go:
