Radio Tour: Today's introductory comments #8 -- or the Many Moods of Jonathan Vaughters #2

I'm struck by Versus' attempts to make cycling fit into its new, one might even say extreme format. What's this "Red White Black & Blue" nonsense? It seems to be proliferating across the cable dial, too. A couple of days ago, I stumbled on a show called "Holy ----!" which is basically a bunch of YouTube snuff videos stitched together with absurdist narrative along the lines of America's Funniest Home Videos.

Anyway, how about this Versus "Take Back the Tour" promo? Which features Jonathan Vaughters in voiceover talking about how unpleasant it is to crash on a roadbike in a race? Cue the usual heinous video of sprinting pileups and descending ragdolls.

VAUGHTERS: "Next time you're in your car, at 50 miles per hour, strip down to your underwear and jump out. That's what it's like to crash in a professional bike race."

Now, I certainly don't need to be persuaded how fun and interesting it is to watch television for three hours every day for the month of July. But I didn't sign up to have Jonathan Vaughters talking to me about my underwear.
