Radio Tour: Today's introductory comments

Just one thought before I tune in to today's stage and prepare to relate to you all of my sagacious and charming commentary (or not at all, quite possibly).

  • I haven't done the math, but it seems to me that a rough average is around 100 miles per stage at this year's TDF. Comparing that to your typical domestic race calendar, where road races are rarely that long, and they come in the middle of 6-stage tours that are lousy with stupid 1-hour criterions -- is it even possible for a domestic racer to make the leap to a Grand Tour and survive it in his first year?
  • A century is, for whatever reason, looked upon with great awe, fear, and respect among club riders. They should all watch the tour with one thought in mind: What's the least painful way to commit suicide and rid the world of my feeble self?
