The defense of Quick Release

The National Bicycle Dealers Association has thrown another $7500 into a pot to defend the quick-release hub, doubling its previous contribution to the defense fund. What's to defend, you ask?

You'll recall that last year a busy-body New Jersey legislator -- an elected voice of the people, y'know -- had proposed a ban on quick-release hubs based on a rumor that somebody somewhere might have lost a wheel one time.

This just in: NASA and the Vatican have created defense funds as well, in anticipation that New Jersey's congressional delegation may also claim the world is flat and the Pope is not Catholic.

FTA:

"Under the bill, it would be illegal to sell bicycles with quick-release wheels if the bicycle has a front wheel less than 20 inches in diameter."

Dang! They will probably go after the colored spoke straws next.

Is it any wonder our taxes are so high in New Jersey? We just can't seem to stop hurting ourselves. It's a good thing we have such hard working legislators to keep us safe from ourselves.
