When snowbikes are not snowbikes

I'm not a big fan of the whole spectrum of downhill snowbikes. Bikes without pedals are... well, they're scooters. (Just so, don't get me started on that snow-track bike.) Give me a Pugsley, and let's leave it at that.

Still, this Lenz Sport scooter looks like fun, and I like the way this homespun video isn't overly ambitious or pornographic in its "big air" elements. Like amateur bike porn -- for us flabby middle-aged dudes who can barely bunnyhop the curb.

I didn't expect it to be so appealing, but the video makes snow biking look fun.

My definition of snow biking has always been riding down Portland Ave., dodging cars parked in the bike lane and getting grazed by passing cars. That's exciting.

That looks awesome! I'll admit, I thought it would be sort of stupid at first too but I will not hate. That looks like a lot of fun...

Gotta tell you, as a long-time taunter of snowbikes, I rode one of these in Durango last week. It was a a blast. Some of the guys were even taking them down through the bumps.
