More on Swobo, the Second Coming

A few weeks ago, we had a good laugh when Denver cyclists, messengers, and poseurs complained that Swobo came to their big summer throwdown and tried to "co-opt the culture." We had a good laugh, because Swobo had a lot to do with creating that culture in the first place. Without grassroots companies like Swobo celebrating the urban bike culture, messengers would still be making about $10 an hour and wearing filthy courier bags, but no one would idolize or emulate them.

Anyway, today there's a pretty awesome interview with Tim Parr, Swobo's redoubtable founder, at Coolhunting.com. The website is dedicated to the dubious proposition of finding what's coolest, newest, and next-big-thingest in order to raise the awareness of Major US Corporations so that they can sell more shit to more people in more places.

But give Tim Parr a soapbox, and he'll preach the Word.

People on bikes does a lot of good for everyone. You don't even need to be the person riding. So our plans are to leave this place better than the way we found it. Our apparel line tows the company vision as well, it uses 100% USDA organic cotton, recycled polyester, water based inks, Merino wool, etc. because it's just the way it should be done. We also donate 1% of gross revenue (the big number, the not so easy to hide behind number) to environmental groups. Business has the ability to change a lot of this environmental mess (because business started most of these enviro problems), and people have the ability to change business.

And by the way, you can read our Haiku Review of the Swobo Folsom right here, from way back in May.

Also, check out Stevil's fine performance at Homie Fall Fest here.

I bought one of Swobo's Short Sleeve Technical T's on closeout for $12 last month, and it has been co-opting my sweat ever since. I won't pay full retail for Swobo though. MRSP is for The Man.
