Get on your bike, Chicago tough guy!

A possible interruption in Chicago's public transit service has the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation peddling its wares, and offering to provide a viable bike-route option for anyone who normally rides the bus. (Just email them your normal bus route, and they'll draw up a biking alternative.) Are they being nosey, helpful, or just promoting themselves? Yes, yes, yes!

But I noticed a Sun-Times reporter, in an aside, writes,

Talk about bicycles and transportation sometimes wins you a patronizing smile. Bikes. Sure. Run out and play, why don't you. But we have a good system of on- and off-street bike routes.

In Chicago, I should think there are far more patronizing smiles on the faces of cyclists. "You drive an hour each way? In bumper-to-bumper traffic? You pay $600 a month for parking? The T takes you 55 minutes from Lincoln Park? Cars and trains. Sure. Run out and play, why don't you."

Chicago has a "L", not a "T"... And yes, the L service is fair to horrid most of the time.
