Smart in school, dumb on the bike

Seen in the morning papers, a while back...

OK, so among other things this helmet gives a proximity warning for potholes but it also plays stereophonic music, records speech, makes cell phone calls, and has directional blinkers.

A good thing it also detects ambulance sirens and automatically mutes the music. This fellow will want to know when the paramedics are finally arriving to pick up his broken body.

Why are people forever trying to make themselves safer with insulation, when what they really need is a good ear, quick reflexes, and laser-focused attention? There is simply no technology that can fully compensate for human stupidity.

"What if a bike helmet could warn you about a pothole in the road?"

Uh, well... what if monkeys could fly out of my butt? That would be interesting, sure, but not especially useful.
