The French -- better bike lovers?

If there has been a "darling" bike story in the mainstream media this summer, it has been Paris' Velib program-- the audacious plan to put 20,000 free bikes on the streets of the city. Just two weeks into the program, and with only 10,000 bikes rolling, city officials say that they've already clocked 1 million rides.

We're hardly math wizards, but we work that out to be roughly 7 rides per bike per day.

Which American city will be the first to attempt something like this? Hint: It won't be in Texas, though we finally remembered something we DO like about that lame state.
