Dog against bike: It's not always ha-ha-ha funny, y'know

Apropos of last week's widespread enjoyment of bike vs. dog footage at the TDF, we read in the papers today that an Oregon man has had his dog taken from him for allowing it to attack and seriously injure a passing cyclist.

There are lots of "strategies" for dealing with dogs out on the road, but our favorite is to make a mad 500 meter-sprint, and get that dented old frame pump ready.

Also, nothing wrong with the whole taser approach.

Roller skiers, as much of a damn nuisance as they can be, have special anti-dog powers: They can hold the beast at bay with one pole, and use the other one to whack some fear into it.

Using a whistle (like a referee's whistle) and squirting with a water bottle have both worked for me. Might not work all the time, but they have worked some.
