Texas roadie on a Colorado mountain bike

Speaking of Lance Armstrong, he is not in France this July. He is on native soil--literally, as he apparently prepares to ride the Leadville 100. According to Chris Carmichael's blog, he's been hanging out in Colorado Springs, and the two recently rode a long section of the course.

But what we noticed is that Lance has obviously made good on his 2005 pledge to retire to a twelve pack of beer and a bag of Doritos each night for the rest of his life. Dude finally looks like the hefty sprinter he was back in 1996.

If he does show up for the race, it'll be reminiscent of Greg LeMond's surprise appearance at the Fat Tire 40 in '92 and '93--which he won handily both times, as remembered in our current conversation with Gary Crandall.
