Steve Madden: The Wit and the Wisdom

Speaking of magazines--is there a better gig in cycling than being the editor of Bicycling magazine? If there is, we'd like to know about it. (Well, okay maybe head beer taster at Surly.) The great Rodale magazine empire is legendary for amping the "celebrity" of its top editors and putting them out on the pundit circuit. Naturally, they are bottomless fonts of wisdom and factoids.

Let's sample a few statements from Mr. Madden, compiled just within the last week!

  • "If you ride your bike enough, you're eventually going to get a flat." —Newsday, July 17
  • "There is no way a $12,000 bike is six times better than a $2,000 bike." —USA Today, July 16
  • “A lot of people are freaked out by the technology and freaked out by the retail experience.” —The Washington Post, July 13
