Sometimes the jokes tell themselves, folks

Seen in the morning papers...

This is so lame, we don't even know where to begin. But a closer look at the situation reveals what the problem is.

The Segway, which is balanced by gyroscopic sensors and travels up to 15 mph, also increases her speed when she needs it, and allows access to information and boosts her range of vision, DeSilva said. She says it's also free of the clumsy maneuvering associated with a bicycle.

A cop who can't spin up to 15 mph and who finds a Segway easier to maneuver than a bike?

That whole putting-your-foot-down-at-a-red-light thing... uh, yeah. Too many donuts, not enough exciting chases going down in Ashland, Oregon.

I can't wait for the news chopper police chase footage... Cops on segways running down marauding bike thiefs! Ahh the utopia is dawning and segway is at the epicenter. I wonder if they'll have a paging service for live newscasts?

A swanky shopping center here in the SF Bay area (Stanford Shopping center, for those who care) has rent-a-cops on Segways.

I didn't think you could make that job *less* dignified, but they found a way....
