A Forbidden Love, chapter 4

Our lust for the Masi Special is well established -- in fact, it's almost gotten us beat up. But our affection and admiration is, alas, not unique.

Richard Bryne, the CEO of Speedplay, has recently CLONED his lover. Check it out. Can you tell the original from the copy? (By the way, check the comments for a nice note from expert-- Masi Guy Tim Jackson.)

Geeze, that's just sick.

Richard has been a big fan of the old Masi bikes for many years and was involved with Masi when it came to the States... lucky stiff. The restoration and copy are both simply gorgeous. Brian Baylis has a couple of great ones he's made too. Another guy who I just have tons of respect for.

Interesting story. I really like that the framebuilders, all heavy-hitters who could demand huge prices, absolutely refused to start digging into the classic bike on ethical and moral grounds.

Taking the long view instead of just seeing the possible money. That is incredibly cool.
