An epic hike-a-bike

Seen in the morning papers... this fellow has been pushing his bike for 2 years, through the Southwest.

A little more than two years, five Southern states, 5,050-plus miles and 17 pairs of shoes later, he reached Pecos, N.M. — still pushing the same bike... Guesnard, 58, walks the bike instead of riding it because he can walk against traffic and that’s safer, he says. “It doesn’t take but one person not paying attention, or angry with bicyclists to run you down,” he says.

Mr. Guesnard could have saved a lot of shoe leather by riding instead of pushing. In our experience, other people's problems are not remedied by working the other side of the street; there is small comfort in making eye contact before they run you down.
