Chalk one up for the nanny state

Seen in the afternoon news... New York now requires "commercial cyclists" to wear a helmet.

Judging by the delivery bikes you see down in Chinatown, the new law may be a hardship for some business owners. But really, why stop there? Why not require all riders to carry water, a spare tube, a chain tool, a map, and a small fire extinguisher?

Somehow we suspect the NYPD has bigger fish to fry than scofflaw rickshaws in the Bowery.

Also, this: "Cyclists must also now have writing as to who they work for"? Christ, is everyone who works in television completely illiterate? Are messengers supposed to carry around a permission slip now or something? Or just a favorite novel?
